We offer Ballet classes from age 2.5. Following the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Syllabus, students have the opportunity to work towards examinations as well as performances. We also offer a Progressing Ballet Technique class (PBT) for students in Grade 1 Ballet through to Advanced 1 Ballet. This is a purposely designed class that dancers all across the world study which is for ballet dancers. The aim of the syllabus is to strengthen dancers muscle memory and develop their strength and technique.
We offer Tap classes from age 3. We follow the Imperial Society of Teacher of Dance (ISTD) Syllabus, giving students the opportunity to take examinations form age 5. Tap is the most rhythmic style of dance, teaching students rhythm, co-ordination, timing, musicality and performance skills as well as allowing them the chance to develop their confidence, style and team working skills. We offer Modern classes from reception age starting with Primary modern. Following the Imperial Society of Teacher of Dance (ISTD) Syllabus, students can work towards examination. Modern dance is a rhythmic dance style rooted in musical theatre. It is often seen in musical productions and is known for its dynamic theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. Our classes teach these skills as well as discipline, team work, co-ordination, good posture, musicality and allowing student to build confidence and perform.

We offer Musical Theatre from ages 6 upwards and the option of LAMDA exams in Acting and Musical Theatre.
Classes explore group songs and dances as well as acting scenes.
We have had great success in our recent LAMDA exams with all Grade 6 and 7 students achieving Distinctions. Grade 6-8 (medal levels) carry UCAS points. Our mini and junior musical theatre classes are combined with jazz dance to give a more rounded musical theatre experience at this young age. Commercial is fun style, usually to pop music. The style is commonly seen on Pop music videos. It allows the dancer to express themselves in an energetic style of dance.

Acro is a new addition to our timetable for Autumn 2024. We follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus. This is specifically designed to compliment dancers current training, giving them new skills and developing strength and flexibility. Contemporary dance stems from the core, or torso, of the body and uses elements of contract, release, spiral, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation. This evolving style has fast become one of the most dominant genres for dancers throughout the world.
We have recently introduced a Lyrical class for younger students as a lead in to the contemporary style. This is more suitable for younger students and a chance to further develop their style and technique. Both styles compliment the modern work well, allowing the dancer to be expressive.
Jazz dance is a performance style which has developed across the years. Our class teaches steps and sequences in the jazz styles building into routines for performances. Our mini and junior classes are combined with musical theatre to give a more rounded musical theatre experience at this young age. From age 11 our classes are split in order to develop students technique in more detail. Our classes also incorporates conditioning and stretching at senior level.
Company is the name given to the group of students who represent KJ Theatre Arts at Festivals (competitions) in and around the local area. We enter a variety of festivals, some are fun and more relaxed, others are quite competitive and students compete to gain a place and a mark that will qualify them to take part in the All England regional finals.
KJ Theatre Arts Company is invite only and students are eligible to be invited if they take Ballet, Tap and Modern classes. We recommend students take additional classes such as Jazz, Musical Theatre, Commercial, Contemporary to allow them to experience different styles and advance their technique, strength and performance skills.
